Meet Karen

Hi, I’m Karen, the creator of Wavecrest Wellness. I’m glad you’re here!

My intention is to guide you towards rediscovering your true nature, and facilitate the release of inner blockages that may be preventing you from living your joy.

I offer a safe space for your healing journey to begin. I work through vibrational sound and energy healing, and teach techniques for you to continue practicing mindfulness on your own. I am excited to guide you on the journey toward your most authentic self through Sound Therapy, Reiki, Meditation, and Breathwork.

With 15 years experience as a first responder, I welcome EMS, Fire, Police, Healthcare, Military, Teachers, Moms, Dads, and anyone and everyone else who needs a break!

We all encounter our share of challenges and setbacks in life, and my experience has been no exception. Growing up I figured out how to seek out my own happiness- I travelled, worked, surfed, and rode horses.

Then, a series of unbearable losses knocked me down. Over a period of a few short years, I lost my little brother, grandparents, then my other little brother. My heart was broken all the way open. The weight I felt trying to navigate unrelenting grief while being present as a wife, mother, and paramedic was not sustainable.

Around this time, my family and I moved to the west coast of Puerto Rico for one year. The pace of life on the island allowed me to truly begin to process my pain. Through tears, surfing, and connecting with incredible teachers (thank you, Emily, Oscar, and Kathleen!) I began to catch glimpses of a new and profound level of healing that I had never experienced before. After attending multiple sound therapy and reiki sessions, it was clear to me that whatever I was experiencing was helping me to heal.

The deeper the trough of a wave, the more magnificent the crest. My favorite moment in surfing is when I am on the wave's crest and need to commit to dropping in- to feel the joy and freedom of riding it out. I let go of everything I have been carrying to get into the flow of the wave. Surfing has taught me that it takes a moment of courage to drop into the unknown, but once we do, all that is left is to surrender.

My goal is to help you navigate the inevitable waves of life and help you release whatever you have been carrying. I hope to be a guide in discovering what true peace and freedom feel like for you, so you can be empowered on your healing journey.

With love and gratitude,

Karen

Background

Born and raised in Olympia, WA, I was eager to get out of town after high school, and went to college in Boston. There I discovered a passion for humanitarian work, and alternated semesters working and traveling throughout Central and South America.

After transferring and finishing my degree at the University of Washington, I went to work on a fire crew in Oregon. I fought fire in the summers, then travelled and worked for state forestry in the winters.

In 2010, I met my husband in paramedic school in Portland, OR. Together we moved back to his hometown of Missoula, MT. He started a job as a firefighter, I as a paramedic, and we soon started a family.

Our family enjoys the country life- floating the river, hiking, fishing, and horseback riding. I continue to do medical service trips, work as a paramedic, surf anywhere and everywhere I possibly can, train Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, salsa dance, read, learn, and meditate a lot.

I am forever grateful for my continued training with Mudita Wellness in Rincón, Puerto Rico as I continue my own healing journey.
